KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has unveiled a comprehensive 15-year strategic development plan to boost the economic development and safeguard the rich heritage of Ranau district.
The plan, which runs from 2025 to 2040, was launched by Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, aims to promote inclusive and balanced development across both urban and rural communities.
Ranau’s distinct strengths, particularly its potential as a highland tourism and agro-tourism hub, form the foundation of the roadmap.
“The plan capitalises on the district’s unparalleled natural beauty and cultural heritage to deliver benefits across all community segments,” said Masidi.
Prepared by the Institute for Development Studies, the plan focuses on seven core areas: modern rural community development, efficient governance, human capital excellence, prestigious tourism destinations, food security, sustainable natural resource management, and socio-economic prosperity.
Masidi also highlighted Ranau’s international recognition through Unesco's Triple Crown designation, which affirms its unique biodiversity and cultural significance.
Stressing the importance of collaboration, he called on local communities and authorities to actively support the plan’s implementation, stressing that their involvement will be crucial to its success.
Framed as a living document, the plan is designed to adapt to changing circumstances, technological advances, and evolving needs.
Masidi expressed confidence that this flexible approach will help ensure the district’s long-term progress.
“This is a living document, meant to grow and change with us, ensuring the aspirations of Ranau's people continue to be met in the years to come,” he said.
