Sabah Electricity, UPPM ink MOU to widen electricity access

KOTA KINABALU: A collaboration between Sabah Electricity (SE) and the state Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) has been officially inked on Thursday (June 26) to ensure electricity supply reaches every corner of the state.

"This endeavour complements the state government's efforts to ensure people in the state, particularly those in the rural and interior areas, have access to electricity," said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor after witnessing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between SE and UPPM Sabah at Menara Kinabalu.

Hajiji said it also falls under the purview of the Community Development Leaders (PPM) in delivering the best possible service to constituents in their respective areas, adding that they have a vital role to discharge their duties diligently and responsibly.

Under the one-year MOU, both SE and UPPM Sabah would work together to improve electricity connectivity, especially to areas that have yet to be covered, develop sustainable energy infrastructure and create more awareness among the people on the utility company's services and functions as well as on efficient usage of energy.

He noted that job opportunities would also be created from projects implemented under the collaboration.

SE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar signed the agreement with UPPM Sabah director Datuk Awang Kadin Tang.

Also present were state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and state Attorney General Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh.
