Man dies in accident involving two heavy vehicles

BATU PAHAT: A man died on the spot in an accident involving a heavy vehicle and a medium-duty truck along the North-South Expressway on Wednesday (June 25) near here.

Ayer Hitam fire station chief Mohamed Shamin Mohamed Salikin said the incident took place at KM79.9 of the Ayer Hitam stretch (southbound) at 8.58am.

He said six firemen and a fire rapid tender vehicle were deployed to the scene.

"Our team arrived at the site located about 7km away at 9.05am," Mohamed Shamin said in a statement.

He said the vehicles involved were a truck transporting a mix dryer and a five-ton truck carrying bathroom accessories.

A mix dryer, also known as a mixed-flow dryer, is a type of grain dryer that uses a unique design to dry grain more evenly and efficiently than traditional cross-flow dryers.

“The attendant of the medium-duty truck, aged 26, was pronounced dead by a medical officer at the scene," said Mohamed Shamin.

He added that the 40-year-old truck driver and the driver of the loader, aged 34, escaped unhurt.

The remains of the victim were handed over to the police for further action.
