PETALING JAYA: More than 100 luxury cars have been seized for various traffic offences, says Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.
The vehicles will be kept at a depot, with further action to be taken under the Road Transport Act 1987 and related laws, he added.
As of Tuesday (June 24), he said, 101 luxury cars had been linked to offences.
Selangor and Kuala Lumpur recorded the most cases (17 each), followed by Penang (14), Perak (11), Johor (10), Kedah (nine), Pahang and Melaka (five each), Negri Sembilan (four), Kelantan (three), Terengganu and Sabah (two each), and Sarawak and Perlis (one each).
Offences include having expired road tax, no insurance coverage, displaying the number plate of a different registered vehicle, using illegal number plates, and mismatched chassis numbers, among others.
“This shows that JPJ will not turn a blind eye towards any quarters that fail to comply with the law.
“Owning a luxury vehicle is no reason to ignore your responsibility as a road user,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
The operation, dubbed Ops Luxury, was carried out nationwide in efforts to strengthen enforcement against the ownership and usage of luxury cars in a manner that broke the law.
He also urged vehicle owners to be more responsible in ensuring their documents and driving licences are valid.
“We will continue similar operations from time to time to ensure only valid, safe and registered vehicles are allowed on the road,” he said.
