Four cops remanded five days over alleged graft involving couple in car

MELAKA: Four policemen have been remanded for five days at a Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe amounting to RM2,000 as an inducement not to take action against an individual for being in close proximity with his lover inside a car.

The remand order until June 28 against the suspects, aged between 26 and 40 years old, was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday (June 24).

All four were detained when they were instructed to attend an identification process at the Melaka MACC office in Alai here between 3.50pm and 4.00pm on Monday (June 23)

Two of the cops are corporals aged 33 and 36 years old and another is a constable aged 26 years old while the fourth is a 40-year-old police volunteer reserve holding the rank of corporal.

All the suspects are believed to have stopped the complainant, who was alone in a vehicle with his fiancee at the parking area of Jalan Melaka Mall in Ayer Keroh here.

Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie, when contacted, confirmed the arrest, and said that all four are being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
