Wife of Sarawak Premier passes away


KUCHING: Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang, the wife of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, passed away early Monday (June 23) morning.

She breathed her last at 3.34am at Normah Medical Specialist Centre here, according to a short statement shared with the media.

She was 76.

Final respects will be held at Masjid Jamek in Petra Jaya here from 10am to noon.

The burial will take place at the Semariang Muslim cemetery.

On Sunday (June 22) night, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed during the state Gawai dinner here that Abang Johari had left the event after giving his speech to be with his wife at the hospital.

"Let us pray for the wellbeing of the Premier's wife, who is in hospital," he said.

Juma'ani was the daughter of the late Tun Bujang Tuanku Othman, the second Governor of Sarawak.

Abang Johari and Juma'ani were married on Feb 26, 1977 and they had two children.
