Rape suspect escapes from Sibu police station


SIBU: An Indonesian man remanded for a rape investigation escaped from the Sibu Central Police Station on Saturday (June 21), prompting an immediate manhunt.

Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili, reported the escape occurred at about 4pm.

The suspect, Bini, 25 has been remanded for an offence under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code - specifically the rape of a minor - fled wearing a purple police lock-up T-shirt and trousers.

He was last seen running within the police station compound during the escape, ACP Zulkipli stated.

The case is now under investigation for escape from lawful custody, with potential penalties of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.

An immediate operation involving relevant units was launched around 4pm the same day to track down the detainee.

ACP Zulkipli urged the public to assist police with any information regarding the suspect's whereabouts.
