Foreign restaurant helper detained in Melaka for outraging modesty

MELAKA: Melaka police have detained a Pakistani restaurant helper for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 21-year-old undergraduate at the staircase of an apartment in Bukit Beruang here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the 31-year-old suspect was arrested by officers from the Ayer Keroh police station at 1am on Thursday (May 22), following a report lodged by the victim on the same day.

He said the victim's 54-year-old father also accompanied the police during an ambush at the restaurant where the suspect was working before the arrest was made.

ACP Christopher Patit said the suspect had suddenly lunged at the victim while she was descending the staircase of the apartment at 8.30am on May 20.

“The suspect, who was seated on the staircase, began hugging the victim and outraging her modesty,” he said.

Christopher added that the suspect has been remanded to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code for using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty.
