FRU crash accused nabbed for cattle theft just after posting bail

IPOH: The man accused of involvement in the accident where nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel were killed has been rearrested, moments after he was released on police bail.

The 45-year-old is suspected of being involved in the theft of two cows last month.

Bagan Datuk OCPD Supt Mohammad Ali Mohd Jali said the man was arrested at the Teluk Intan Magistrate's Court compound shortly after he was released on police bail.

"This follows a report that was lodged on April 14 about two missing cows at Kampung Sungai Keli in Hutan Melintang," he said in a statement on Monday (May 19).

"The case will be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

"Those found guilty could be jailed for up to seven years or fined or both.

"We will take the suspect to court on Tuesday (May 20) to obtain a remand order to facilitate the investigation," he added.

It was reported earlier today that the lorry driver was allowed to be released after his employer had posted bail.

After claiming trial to nine charges of causing death by dangerous driving on Friday (May 16), he could not post bail and was to be detained until the next court mention on June 17.

In the incident at Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam on Tuesday (May 13), nine FRU personnel were killed while nine others were injured.

Of those injured, six are still hospitalised, with five at Hospital Teluk Intan and one at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, while the rest have been discharged.
