Thunderstorm wreaks havoc in Ipoh

IPOH: A two-hour thunderstorm has wreaked havoc in several areas here.

A makeshift garage at Jalan St John collapsed, causing injuries to four people, while a tree fell on a car at Jalan Raja Ashman Shah, near the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, on Saturday (May 17) at about 5.45pm.

At Kampung Dato Ahmad Said, roofs of two houses were also blown off by strong winds.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said in the incident at Jalan St John, five people had sought shelter at the garage earlier before the structure collapsed.

"Four people have been rescued by passers-by and handed over to the Health Ministry personnel.

"Three sustained minor injuries while another man suffered a broken arm," he said, adding that another person was unharmed.

On the incident at Jalan Raja Ashman Shah, he said the two individuals in the car were not injured.

At Kampung Dato Ahmad Said, Sabarodzi said the roofs were blown off at Jalan Berlian and Jalan Undan, while a tree fell in front of a house at Jalan Bangsa.

"There were no injuries reported. We are working to remove the fallen tree, which is blocking the entrance of a house there," he added.
