MELAKA: The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 437 notices for various offences after inspecting 1,587 vehicles during a special integrated operation along the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway near Melaka Sentral on Wednesday night (May 14).
Its director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said in a statement on Thursday (May 15) that 265 vehicles were found to have committed offences, including driving licence violations, lack of insurance coverage, and technical violations, adding that three vehicles were seized during the operation.
Siti Zarina said the police, National Anti-Drugs Agency, Immigration Department and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry were involved in the four-hour operation that ended at midnight.
She said police issued 27 summonses for various traffic offences, and one driver was detained for driving under the influence of alcohol.
"The agency conducted urine tests on 22 individuals. Four tested positive for methamphetamine and one for cannabis," she said, adding that the suspects, aged between 19 and 50, were detained for further investigations. – Bernama
