Putin calls Malaysia 'reliable, significant' partner of Russia


MOSCOW, May 14 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim holds a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kremlin, Moscrow Wednesday. The meeting covered a wide range of bilateral issues and explored the potential for Malaysia-Russia cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture and agri - commodities, education, aerospace and energy. MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Moscow on Wednesday (May 14), called Malaysia a reliable and important partner for Russia.

The Malaysian Prime Minister arrived in Moscow for an official visit on Tuesday (May 13).

"Dear Mr. Prime Minister, dear friends, allow me to welcome you cordially in Moscow. Malaysia is our long-standing, very reliable and significant partner both in general and in South-East Asia," Putin said during the meeting.

Economic ties between Russia and Malaysia are stable, the Russian president said, adding that although bilateral trade decreased only insignificantly last year, it remains good.

"The Intergovernmental Commission should pay attention to this, look for reasons and do everything to get to a positive trend of development," Putin added.

Anwar, in turn called Russia a great friend of Malaysia and said his country respects the nation.

During a meeting with Putin, the prime minister expressed hope that the two countries would hold important meetings in the coming days, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.- Bernama
