Traffic standstill due to multiple-vehicle crash on Butterworth–Kulim Expressway

BUTTERWORTH: A multi-vehicle pile-up involving cars and motorcycles on the Butterworth–Kulim Expressway has caused significant traffic for those heading towards Kulim.

Various videos of the incident have been shared online, showing around 17 cars involved in the crash on Monday (May 5) morning.

The videos show cars in the extreme right lane crashing into each other, resulting in multiple vehicles requiring towing.

Damaged motorcycles were parked on the side of the expressway.

It is unclear if there are any casualties at this point.

The incident is reported to have occurred at around 6.30am, causing a standstill until personnel helped clear the lanes and direct traffic.

Many social media users said that the pile-up occurred due to heavy downpours making the roads slippery.

Chiang Joan said this is why her colleague was late for work, while Adip Amie said he now understands why there was a terrible jam earlier in the morning.

Police have yet to comment on the incident.
