Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani Sadriu arrives in Malaysia for official visit

SEPANG: Kosovo President Dr Vjosa Osmani Sadriu arrived in Malaysia on Thursday (May 1) for a four-day official visit, marking her first visit to the country since assuming office on April 4, 2021.

Osmani, who arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA Terminal 1) here on a commercial flight, was warmly received at the Bunga Raya Complex at 5.25pm by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Upon arrival, Osmani inspected a guard of honour mounted by 28 officers and personnel members from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremony) led by Captain Muhammad Nafis Norshid.

According to Wisma Putra, Osmani will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at Perdana Putra Complex on Friday (May 2), followed by a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both leaders are expected to also exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual interest, including Malaysia’s Chairmanship of Asean this year.

Malaysia officially recognised Kosovo on Oct 30, 2008, becoming one of the first Asian countries to do so. Diplomatic relations were formally established on March 18, 2011.

In 2024, total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Kosovo reached RM28.55mil (US$6mil), with Malaysia’s exports to the republic valued at RM25.92mil (US$5.5mil), and imports at RM2.63mil (US$550,000).

Key Malaysian exports include palm oil, electrical and electronic products, and manufactured goods, while imports from Kosovo mainly consist of raw materials and semi-precious stones.- Bernama
