Senior citizen nabbed for stabbing another to death in Penang


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A senior citizen was arrested for stabbing a 68-year-old man to death in Cherok Tokun here.

Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris said the suspect was arrested in front of a coffee shop in Machang Bubok on April 29 at about 11pm.

"A remand application for the suspect was made before the Magistrate at the Bukit Mertajam Court, and the remand was granted until May 6 to facilitate further investigation," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 19).

ACP Helmi said that with the arrest, police have successfully solved the case which happened on April 27.

On Sunday (April 27), a brawl between two elderly men resulted in the death of one of them at a hut in Cherok Tokun where the man was pronounced dead.

Investigation found that during the incident, the victim was chatting with five friends, including the suspect at the hut when suddenly the suspect came from behind and hit the victim with a stick before stabbing the victim.

The suspect fled from the scene after the incident.

The incident that occurred at 3.22pm, was believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect during the three days leading up to the incident.
