Perikatan candidate grateful for opportunity

TAPAH: Perikatan Nasional candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek has accepted his defeat in the Ayer Kuning by-election, saying the outcome reflected the will of the people.

The Tapah PAS chief expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contest and thanked both the coalition leadership and voters who supported him.

“I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to contest in this by-election.

“I would also like to thank the leadership of Perikatan for trusting me to represent the coalition in Ayer Kuning, as well as all the voters who supported us,” he said at Kompleks PAS Tapah last night.

Barisan Nasional’s Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir polled 11,065 votes and won by a 5,006 majority.

Abd Muhaimin and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia received 6,059 and 1,106 votes respectively.

Asked if he would contest again, Abd Muhaimin responded with a firm “yes”.

“If given another mandate by the leaders, I will continue to fight. We entered this contest to compete for good.

“I hope Mohamad Yusri will do what is needed for the people,” he said.
