Brawl in Bangsar restaurant caused over RM5,000 in damage

KUALA LUMPUR: A brawl between two groups of men at a nasi kandar restaurant along Jalan Telawi, Bangsar early Friday (April 25) caused over RM5,000 in damage, say police.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident, which took place around 5.40am, involved eight to 10 men.

“As a result of the fight, a glass panel was shattered, dining tables were dented and a decorative Quran display on the wall was destroyed.

“Frightened customers fled the premises, leaving behind unpaid food bills amounting to approximately RM1,000.

"We believe the restaurant suffered about RM5,000 in losses,” he said in a statement on Sunday (April 27).

Initial investigations revealed that the incident was sparked when a woman, who was part of one group, was harassed by another group, he said.

"We have taken statements from three witnesses and have identified several suspects and are tracking them down.

"The case is being investigated under Section 148 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for rioting and causing mischief," he said.
