Ayer Kuning polls: All polling centres closed, results expected at 9pm

TAPAH: All 19 polling centres for the Ayer Kuning by-election are now closed.

According to an official, 18 centres were closed at 6pm, while one polling centre in Toh Tandewa Sakti was closed earlier at 4pm.

As of 4pm, the turnout rate for the polls was 54%.

Some 31,315 people were eligible to vote on Saturday (April 26).

The by-election is a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional's Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Abd Muhaimin Malek of Perikatan Nasional and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

Results are expected to be announced at about 9pm.

The by-election was called following the death of its incumbent, Tapah Umno chief Ishsam Shahruddin, on Feb 22 due to a heart attack.

In the 15th General Election, Ishsam won the state seat with a majority of 2,213 votes in a five-cornered fight.
