Jakim reviews controversial remarks by PAS president on haj, election

PETALING JAYA: The Islamic Development Malaysia Department (Jakim) said it is currently reviewing the remarks made by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

In a statement on Monday (April 21), Jakim director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said his department was working with the Federal Territory Mufti Department and relevant authorities to look into the matter.

“Jakim urges all parties to exercise caution when making statements regarding religious matters to avoid confusing the public,” he said in the statement.

Auring a speech at the Ayer Kuning state by-election campaign last Saturday (April 19), Hadi reportedly said that Muslims should prioritise political victory, even if it means postponing plans to perform the umrah or hajj pilgrimage.
