Wee: Multiracial partnership a shining example for others

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional’s model of having multiracial people working together is a success story that can be emulated, says MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“The spirit of Barisan is one of togetherness, friendship and power sharing.

“In fact, other parties and coalitions are following in Barisan’s footsteps,” he said.

As such, Dr Wee said that Barisan can be a role model for other countries on the spirit of togetherness and power sharing.

In his speech during a Mother’s Day celebration at Kampung Baru Banir here yesterday, Dr Wee said Barisan has proven to be a success story.

On the Ayer Kuning by-election, Dr Wee said he hopes the constituents will endorse Barisan’s candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir.

He said the Tapah Umno secretary is experienced and a local boy who is capable of serving the people.

“We need to have a complete team from Barisan so that we can provide better services to the people,” Dr Wee said, adding that it is a tradition of having elected representatives from Umno, MCA and MIC in Tapah.

Also present at the event were MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, vice-president Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, central committee members Datuk Koh Chin Han and Dr Monna Ong Siew Siew.

The Tapah constituency comprises two state constituencies – Ayer Kuning and Chenderiang.

MIC deputy president Datuk M. Saravanan is the Tapah MP, while MCA’s Choong Shin Heng is the Chenderiang assemblyman.

The Ayer Kuning state seat became vacant after the death of its incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin in February at the age of 59.

In the 2022 general election, Ishsam polled 9,088 votes and won by a 2,213-vote majority, defeating Amanah’s Mohd Nazri Hashim, Muhammad Noor Farid of PAS, Pejuang’s Maziah Salim and KS Bawani of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.

The by-election will take place on April 26.

Barisan’s Mohamad Yusri is up against Perikatan Nasional’s Abd Muhaimin Malek and Bawani.

Meanwhile, Dr Mah said the Perak government, led by state Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, is performing well and deserves support from the people.

By voting for Barisan’s candidate in the Ayer Kuning by-election, he said the people are also supporting the initiatives of the state government.

“It is important for us to show support and mandate to the government under Saarani’s leadership.

“We know that he has done very well, introducing and implementing projects like the Silver Valley Technology Park, Kerian Integrated Green Technology Park and the Lumut Maritime Industrial City,” Dr Mah told reporters during a visit to Kampung Baru Banir yesterday.
