On the road to sustainable SME success with ESG and AI

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association (PUMM) has launched a 15-part Forward Asia Strategic Transformation (FAST) roadshow series in a bid to drive the adoption of Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) among businesses.

FAST is a pan-Asian platform focusing on uniting visionary leaders across Asean to accelerate sustainable business practices, innovation and inclusive growth.

“This is done through curated events, executive roundtables and high-impact roadshows,” said Edison Choong, deputy director of Strategic Planning and Deputy Sustainability Lead at the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).

“Integrating ESG with AI is not just about compliance; it’s about leveraging technology to drive responsible growth and innovation.

“Businesses that embrace this integration are not only protecting their market share but also pioneering new models for sustainable success,” he said after leading the first roadshow on Thursday.

The next roadshow, which is part of this inaugural event, is scheduled to take place on May 8. The 15-workshop series run by PUMM will culminate with a major regional flagship roadshow in November 2025.

At this event, policymakers, business leaders, investors and innovators will come together to commit to bold, measurable sustainability actions by 2030.

PUMM president Datuk Dr Teh Tai Yong said while ESG is often associated with large corporations, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) also have the agility and innovation to lead in this space.
