KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria will continue to lead the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) for a third consecutive term after winning the presidency unopposed for the 2025-2029 term.
While Norza's position was uncontested, OCM elections held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (April 19) saw intense battles for several other key posts, especially the deputy president's role, which was left vacant following Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin's decision not to seek re-election.
Malaysia Karate Federation (Makaf) president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad emerged victorious, securing the deputy president's post with a convincing 70-20 win over Lawn Bowls Malaysia president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz.
The contest for the five vice-president positions was equally competitive, with seven candidates throwing their hats into the ring.
Taekwondo Malaysia (TM) president Azizul Annuar Adenan topped the list with 81 votes, followed closely by Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM) representative Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan, who garnered 80.
The other three vice-president slots went to Malaysian Boxing Federation (MBF) representative Datuk Mohamad Iruan Zulkifli (65 votes), former national swimming star Nurul Huda Abdullah (62), and incumbent Datuk Chong Kim Fatt of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia (56).
There was also a change in the secretary-general's post, with Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali stepping in to replace Datuk Nazifuddin Najib, who did not contest. Datuk Ahmad Feisal Ahmad Tajuddin, meanwhile, retained his position as treasurer.
