Student behind AI porn of schoolmates expelled

JOHOR BARU: A 16-year-old boy, who is in police custody for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to create pornographic images of his schoolmates and alumni, has been expelled from his school.

The school board issued a statement yesterday admitting that the school’s handling of the incident was not prompt enough.

“Nevertheless, this does not affect the school’s decision to act in accordance with school regulations when dealing with student misconduct.

“In this particular case involving a Form 5 student, the school has already met with the parents and officially issued a notice of expulsion in accordance with the school rules,” the statement said.

The board said the school would provide comprehensive support for the victims, including psychological counselling.

“At the same time, we will strictly protect the victims’ identities and offer legal assistance when appropriate.

“The board has a responsibility to ensure students’ safety and mental well-being, protect the dignity of teachers and uphold the respect for teachers.

“Therefore, the board reserves the right to take action against any defamatory or bullying behaviour toward the school’s teachers or students,” it added.

The board also said that apart from the students directly involved, the school was also addressing the issue of an anonymous online account “Li Xiaobai”, which has harassed several alumni and spread the inappropriate composite photos.

On Wednesday, Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar confirmed that eight police reports were filed against the teenager, who was arrested on Tuesday in Kulai district.

The suspect is being remanded for four days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation.
