Bill to separate AG, Public Prosecutor roles enters second reading

KUALA LUMPUR: The Constitutional Amendment Bill to separate the powers of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor has been scheduled for the second reading on Tuesday(July 14).

However, according to a notice to lawmakers on the House’s order of business for Tuesday, both the Parliamentary Special Select Committee’s report on the proposed constitutional amendments to separate the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor and the Constitution (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2026 are scheduled to take place on Tuesday—although there will be no debates.

Sources told The Star that the debates and vote on the Bill will take place in the next meeting of the Dewan Rakyat.

As it is a constitutional amendment, the Bill requires a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat to be passed.

It was referred to a 12-member bipartisan Parliamentary Special Select Committee after its second reading in March this year.
