Malbatt in Lebanon to get 60 new vehicles, says Armed Forces chief

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) forces in Lebanon will be given 60 new vehicles next year, says Armed Forces chief General Datuk Mohd Nizam Jaffar.

"The teams will be given around 60 new vehicles and arrive by the latest in the middle of next year (2026)," he said in a video.

He said this would increase Malbatt's readiness and mobility and also put them on par with other countries on duty there.

He added that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) commander Lieutenant General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz had informed him that the situation was "complex".

"I was told that the complexity of the situation was due to actions from the other side.

"Israeli forces have conducted numerous aggressions that crossed the line.

"Unifil has a limited scope to act even though under the United Nations charter we are allowed to defend the lives of civilians and ourselves," he said.

In a statement on Saturday (April 5), the Armed Forces said that Gen Mohd Nizam had visited the Malbatt contingent from April 2 to 4.

"The trip was to observe the readiness of personnel that are serving under Malbatt 850-12 on duty under the Unifil mission," it said.
