Driver killed in two-lorry highway crash

MUAR: A man was killed while a woman suffered injuries when two five-tonne lorries collided on the North-South Expressway (NSE).

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre received an emergency call about the incident at 3.46am yesterday.

Operations commander Johairi Sameon said the accident occurred at Km169.8 southbound on the NSE.

Johairi said 31 firefighters, an emergency medical response services vehicle and two fire rapid tender vehicles from the Tangkak and Jasin Bestari (in Melaka) stations were deployed.

Two people were found trapped in one lorry, he added.

“The 34-year-old driver was pronounced dead by the paramedic team at the scene,” he said, adding that the 35-year-old female passenger was injured.

The driver of the other lorry was unhurt.
