QuickCheck: Are scammers promoting a fake 'Madani digital grant' to con MSMEs?

IN THIS day and age, when scams are ever-evolving, it is not just consumers who need to beware of fraudulent tactics.

Businesses, too, are being targeted by scammers who claim to be high-profile or governmental bodies.

Is it true that scammers are promoting a 'Madani digital grant' to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)?

Verdict:

TRUE

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has issued a public advisory concerning the spread of misinformation regarding a supposed Madani digital grant.

False news circulating online claimed the grant is available to support MSMEs.

MDEC clarified that neither the government nor itself is associated with such a grant, labeling the news as entirely false and malicious.

In response to the growing concerns about fake news, particularly those related to supposed government funding opportunities, MDEC also stressed the importance of public vigilance.

The public is urged to verify the authenticity of information before forwarding or acting upon it to avoid causing unnecessary confusion.
