Missing 12-year-old feared downed found safe in Keningau

KOTA KINABALU: A boy, who was feared to have drowned during a river outing with his friends, was found safe shortly after a report was made.

The 12-year-old had gone swimming with his friends at Kg Baru Durok, Keningau, when he was believed to have been swept away by strong currents on Thursday afternoon (March 20).

His friends then alerted villagers, and a call was made to the fire department.

When firemen arrived to get details and prepare a rescue operation, they were informed that villagers had rescued the boy.

“The boy was found safe and was already sent home,” said Keningau Fire Station chief Julius John Stephen JR on Thursday.

Firefighters concluded their operations at 2:20pm.
