Floods: Several locations near JB report rising waters amid continuous rainfall

JOHOR BARU: Several locations near here are reporting flash floods and rising water following continuous rainfall since Wednesday (March 19) morning.

A Johor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the department had deployed nine firefighters with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) in Tebrau here.

“We have send a team to monitor several locations such as Kampung Paya Kenangan, Kampung Pasir Tebrau, Kampung Kangkar Tebrau, and Taman Bunga Ros.

“Currently, the water level at Sungai Tebrau is at a cautionary level due to continuous rainfall since morning. So far there is no instruction to evacuate the people,” the spokesman added.

However, the spokesman said that those living in flood-prone areas should be prepared to evacuate if water levels continue to rise.

The spokesman added that 10 firemen had rescued a wheelchair-bound senior citizen following floods along Jalan Sukun at Kampung Pasir here.

“We received a distress call at around 2.46pm about floods happening in the area. We then rescued the victim and evacuated him to a nearby community hall,” the spokesman said.
