Govt strongly condemns brutal Israeli airstrike that killed Mapim humanitarian workers, says Anwar

GEORGE TOWN: The federal government strongly condemns the brutal Israeli attack that led to the passing of eight humanitarian workers from the Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (Mapim) in Gaza, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that the government has officially issued a strong protest against the ongoing violence by the Israeli military.

"We strongly condemn the killing and oppression of Mapim volunteers who were on a humanitarian mission to assist patients and others," he said.

Anwar said this after chairing the special Penang Development Meeting at the Penang Development Corporation on Tuesday (March 18).

The airstrike, which took place in Beit Lahiya, in northern Gaza on Saturday (March 15), killed eight Mapim humanitarian workers who were setting up tents to shelter families displaced by the ongoing conflict.

The eight volunteers killed have been identified as Mahmoud Yahya Al-Sarraj, Bilal Hossam Oqeila, Mahmoud Samir Oselim, Mahmoud Khaled Oselim, Mohammed Al-Ghafeer, Hazem Ghareeb, Bilal Abu Matar and Ahmad Hamad.

So far, the organisation has set up 1,000 tents in the area.

Despite the dangers, Mapim says it remains committed to continuing its humanitarian mission to provide aid to the people of Palestine.
