Manhunt on for escapees from Kuching Court


KUCHING: Police are actively searching for two male detainees who escaped during a robbery trial at the Kuching Court on March 7.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the two suspects, aged 26 and 27, fled at around 11.30am at the Kuching Court.

The duo are identified as Mohd Hissyalezwan Abd Zamri and Muhammad Nasrie Razali.

"The case is being investigated under Section 223/224 of the Penal Code, which provides for a two-year prison sentence, a fine or both," he said.

"The two detainees are still on trial for a case under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code (conviction without a firearm)," he added on Monday (March 17).

He said that individuals who harbour the two suspects could be charged under Section 225(b) of the Penal Code, which provides for a three-year prison sentence and a fine.

ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public to provide any information related to the two escapees by contacting the nearest police station or the Kuching IPD control centre at 082-24444 or reaching out to Senior Investigating Officer, ASP Chris Olsen Ramlee, at 013-8607572.
