Sabah floods: Two relief centres in Keningau closed as waters recede

KOTA KINABALU: Two flood relief centres in Keningau were closed with all 137 evacuees allowed to go home as floodwaters recede in the state's interior district on Monday (March 10).

Keningau district officer Peter Jonu Moinjil, who is chairman of the district disaster management committee, said all evacuees would be allowed to return to their homes as of 3pm Monday.

He said the Keningau Community Hall, which was opened on March 8, had housed a total of 37 people from 10 families while Dato Angian Andulang Apin-Apin Hall that was opened on the same day had housed 100 people from 40 families.

The people were from two villages in Keningau.

More than 3,700 people have been evacuated to relief centres over the last four days as floods hit Sabah's south western Beaufort and Membakut areas while the interior Sook, Tenom and Keningau were also affected by the heavy rains.

The victims were from 37 vilages in the affected areas.
