PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Wisma Putra for their diplomatic prowess, noting the significant presence of foreign ambassadors at events hosted by the ministry.

Speaking at the ministry's buka puasa event, the Prime Minister said this underscored Wisma Putra's credibility and influence internationally.

"I was joking with Tok Mat (Foreign Minister Mohamad)… when prime ministers invite ambassadors, not all attend. But when foreign ministers invite them, so many are present," he quipped.

"You can see the strength and influence of our foreign minister and the ministry, of course," he added.

Anwar also acknowledged the global recognition of Malaysia's diplomatic efforts, particularly within Asean and other international engagements.

"During my visits abroad, especially in Asean and other countries, I see the appreciation, the pride – not only in me, but also in the country – because of the work done by Wisma Putra," he said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Malaysia's unique Ramadan traditions, noting the inclusive nature of the celebration.

"It is unique in Malaysia because … (it) sees the involvement of our non-Muslim neighbours and friends from ministries" he said, adding that this gesture of respect is ingrained in Malaysian society.

He said even when he was still a child, he rarely saw Malaysians of other races eating in front of him during the fasting month.

"Somehow, they avoid it out of respect and this is important to my mind," he said.

Drawing attention to global injustices, Anwar said the suffering of others should not be neglected.

"We all (Muslims) fast – but sometimes we don't care for our neighbours who do not have enough food.

"Not only in Gaza but even among our own neighbourhoods. So that is the major test – the meaning and significance of Ramadan," he said.
