KOTA KINABALU: Chaos unfolded near the city mosque when four cars were engulfed in flames while their owners were attending Friday prayers.
Lintas Fire and Rescue Department station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said an initial investigation revealed that the fire started in a multi-purpose vehicle parked by the roadside before spreading to nearby saloon cars.
She said a team of 11 firefighters, led by operations commander Wilfred Sulai, was dispatched to the scene, about 2km away, after a distress call was received at 12.59pm.
“Upon arrival, the team extinguished the blaze using a hose reel from the fire engine, with water sourced from the fire truck’s tank,” she said on Friday (March 7).
The fire was brought under control by 1.07pm, with the MPV sustaining 90% damage, while one of the saloon cars was 60% burnt.
"The other two saloon cars sustained about 4% and 7% damage," Agustavia added.
No casualties were reported.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation," she said, noting that the operation concluded at 1.50pm.
