Religious leaders gather for breaking of fast in Sarawak

KUCHING: Leaders from various religious communities join Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar for a breaking of fast meal at the Astana here on Tuesday (March 4) night.

Among them were Anglican Bishop of Kuching Datuk Danald Jute, Kuching Roman Catholic Archbishop Datuk Simon Poh, Malaysia Buddhist Association Sarawak branch chairman Datuk Tay Chin Kin, Sarawak Sikh Temple Association president Datuk Kalwinder Singh Khaira and Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Association Kuching president Datuk Shankar Ram Asnani.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, state Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director Hamdan Jar'ee and Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) director Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Wan Junaidi said the presence of leaders from various backgrounds reflected Sarawak's rich cultural diversity and spirit of mutual respect.

He expressed appreciation for the harmonious gathering, which served to strengthen interfaith relations and unity.

"This is Sarawak's true strength - not only rich in racial and religious diversity but also the best example of how harmony and mutual understanding continue to be nurtured in society," he said.
