Sabah PKR awaits central leadership's decision on state election alliances

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will defer to the party’s central leadership, led by president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to decide on any political alliances ahead of the upcoming state election.

State deputy treasurer Datuk Nordin Ening expressed confidence that the views and advice of Sabah PKR leaders will be considered, although the decision rests with the top leadership.

He was responding to speculation about a possible alliance between Umno and other parties for the state polls.

"The central leadership will decide on the matter after consulting the new State Leadership Council," he said after officiating the 2025 annual general meeting of the Silam PKR division in Lahad Datu on Saturday (March 1).

Nordin also confirmed that Sabah PKR will field candidates in the election, with the selection process already underway.

"Our Political Bureau is assessing potential candidates to determine their suitability to contest. The final decision will be referred to the Central Leadership Council," he said.

Also present was Silam PKR division chief Romansa Lamin.
