KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will fully utilise its strong ties with various levels of the Chinese government to help Malaysia tap into China’s strengths, drive economic growth, and facilitate industrial upgrades, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said that the ongoing US-China trade war, coupled with China’s domestic economic challenges, has made Malaysia and other Asean nations prime destinations for Chinese capital and industries seeking new opportunities.
"Now is the time for Malaysia to leverage its strong relationship with China and seize this opportunity to attract more Chinese investments," he said during MCA’s 76th Anniversary celebration at Wisma MCA on Saturday (March 1).
Dr Wee summed up Malaysia’s outlook for 2025 in eight Chinese characters: "With internal strife and external threats, we need to navigate cautiously."
"Internationally, Donald Trump’s re-election as US President has led to a resurgence of trade protectionism, reigniting a trade war with China and other countries. This presents both challenges and new opportunities for Malaysia," he added.
Dr Wee highlighted the 5th World Association Presidents’ Conference, held at Wisma MCA in December last year, as a testament to the party’s efforts in fostering economic collaboration.
"Many Chinese enterprises expressed keen interest in investing in Malaysia and expanding their businesses. These enterprises see MCA as a reliable and trustworthy partner. MCA will continue to play to its strengths to help the country and its people boost economic growth," he said.
On Dec 2 last year, MCA successfully organised the World Association Presidents’ Conference, demonstrating the spirit of mutual understanding and collaboration.
The event attracted over 400 Chinese business representatives and was broadcast live, reaching an audience of more than 500 media agencies worldwide.
The live stream of the first day alone garnered 1.98 million views, underscoring MCA's commitment to supporting local Chinese businesses and elevating the profiles of both MCA and Malaysia on the global stage.
