Khaled Nordin engages in key bilateral meetings at 19th Asean Defence Ministers Meeting

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia’s Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, held three bilateral meetings with key defence and regional officials on Tuesday (Feb 25).

The meeting was in conjunction with the 19th Asean Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM), which began on Tuesday in Batu Ferringhi.

He met with Brunei’s Minister of Defence, Major General (Rtd) Datuk Paduka Seri Awang Halbi Mohd Yussof; Timor-Leste’s Minister of Defence, Rear Admiral Donaciano Do Rosario Da Costa Gomes and the Asean Deputy Secretary-General, Datuk Astanah Abdul Aziz.

Among the highlighted topics discussed during the meeting are the latest efforts involving Asean to further strengthen regional cooperation, including joint participation in peacekeeping missions such as Malbatt.

The ministers and officials involved in the meeting agreed that platforms like the ADMM play a crucial role in strengthening ties and defence cooperation among member states.

They acknowledged that forums such as ADMM enhance relationships and defence collaboration among Asean nations.

The retreat also served as a strategic platform for both parties to discuss joint efforts to address regional security challenges.

The ADMM is scheduled until Feb 27.
