Melaka cops arrest man to assist in probe into murder of mother-of-three

MELAKA: Melaka police arrested a 54-year-old man to assist investigations into the alleged murder of a mother of three at Taman Seri Mangga, Seksyen 1 at Pokok Mangga in Malim here.

The victim, a 52-year-old part-time singer, was found in a pool of blood by her female housemate at a rented room in the house on Sun(Feb 23).

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the police have opened an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

"The sharp weapons allegedly used by the suspect have been also recovered," he said on Monday (Feb 24).

ACP Christoper Patit said a witness at the crime scene told his investigation officers that a heated argument between the suspect and the victim was heard on Feb 21 but the individual didn't suspect anything unusual.

"However, the witness discovered the victim, a part-time singer, lying in a pool of blood on Sunday when the former knocked on and opened the door to a room at the house," he said.

ACP Christopher Patit said the suspect was also lying down in the same room with injuries based on the witness's account.

The injured suspect, he said, was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment before the arrest was made.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect while the motive is suspected to be due to jealousy," he said.

ACP Christopher Patit urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the investigating officer, Asst Supt V. Somsundram at 06-284 2222.
