Search ongoing for missing teen in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A teenager went missing while searching for prawns by the beach at Tanjung Semawang in Sandakan on Saturday (Feb 15).

The 14-year-old had gone out with some friends at around 5.30am and were supposed to regroup at around noon, but the boy never appeared.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department officials said the friends looked in areas where the boy could be, but only found his boat at Tg Semawang and his cap floating on the water.

A search was immediately carried out with villagers and his friends helping, and an emergency call was made to the authorities on Sunday (Feb 16) morning.

“We received a call at 6.39am. Our team is there to get information and conduct the search and rescue operation,” said Sandakan fire station chief Severinus@Mohd Nidzam Sainkui.

Search operations are ongoing.
