PM: Royal addendum explanation only after court finishes

KUALA LUMPUR: An explanation on the royal addendum issue involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak will only be given to the Dewan Rakyat after the end of the court case, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said he wants to set an example by honouring the court process.

“After the court case, if permitted, I have promised here (in the Dewan Rakyat) that I will explain (over the matter).

“But I cannot do it now because the case is in court. The Opposition doesn’t care if it is sub judice.

“They think they are above the law. I must set an example,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Opposition MPs had asked whether the addendum issue was among the reasons for the eroding of investors’ confidence in Malaysia.

On Feb 4, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul ruled that the addendum issue should not be raised during debates in the august House.

Johari made the ruling after heated exchanges from both sides of the floor.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) had raised the matter during debates and accused the Prime Minister of treason for his silence.

On Feb 7, Najib objected to the gag order applied by the government in its bid to stop public discourse on the former prime minister’s claim of an additional royal addendum order, which would purportedly allow him to be placed under house arrest.
