Immigration Dept nabs 37 suspected illegal immigrants in raid at Serdang apartment

SERDANG: A raid on an apartment in Serdang resulted in the arrest of 37 suspected illegal immigrants.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban announced that the raid occurred on Feb 11 at Pangsapuri Timur in Serdang.

A total of 82 individuals were inspected, leading to the arrest of 37 suspects aged between 19 and 50 years old.

"They included Bangladeshis, Myanmar nationals, Indonesians, and Pakistanis," he stated.

The raid followed public complaints about illegal immigrants living in the units without passes and proper identification documents.

During the raid, some individuals refused to cooperate, prompting officers to forcibly enter units. Some were found hiding in the building's ceiling and water tank area, but all were detected and arrested.

All suspects have been taken to the department's depot in Bukit Jalil.
