65-year-old local man dies while climbing Mount Kinabalu


KOTA KINABALU: A local man died when scaling Mount Kinabalu on Sunday (Feb 9) evening.

The 65-year-old was said to have collapsed at around 3pm Sunday at KM5.5 of the mountain.

Ranau Fire Station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said they received a distress call at around 3.11pm, and their team reached the scene to find the victim.

He was taken down to Timpohon gate on a stretcher, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Medical officials were at the scene to declare the victim deceased.

The body was handed over to the cops for further action.

Operations on site ended at 8.03pm, said Ridwan.
