Teluk Intan imam’s sermon dispute referred to Perak Religious Council

IPOH: The case involving a Teluk Intan-based imam accused of not delivering the Friday sermon prepared by the Perak Islamic Religious Department has been referred to the Perak Islamic Religious Council.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri confirmed in a brief statement that a police report lodged by the imam was received and the matter has been referred to the state religious council for a probe.

The imam, Mohamad Lofti Samsudin, is said to have lodged the report at the Hilir Perak district police station on Sunday (Feb 2) night.

This comes following an allegation made by former Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim on his Facebook account, which accused the imam of disobeying the Perak Sultan's decree and disrespecting the state religious bodies.

Hasnul Zulkarnain, who was a former state executive council member, lodged a police report here on Sunday, alleging that Mohamad Lofti had declined to read the sermon because it was an older version.
