Johor MCA sorry for FB post

JOHOR BARU: Johor MCA has apologised for a viral post on its official Facebook page, saying that it was accidentally posted by a retired member.

It said the post was shared by one of the Facebook page’s administrators without informing the party’s key leaders.

“Johor MCA apologises, especially to all Muslims, for the post on Jan 26. The admin, who had long retired from Johor MCA, admitted to mistakenly sharing a post from another party.

The post was neither written by Johor MCA nor any of its leaders.

“Johor MCA stresses that the opinion of the retired member was entirely his own, and certainly does not reflect the state party’s stand,” it said in a statement.

The person involved has had access to the Johor MCA Facebook page removed, it added.

“The controversial post was also immediately taken down after complaints were received yesterday.

“We never intended nor had any intention to hurt the feelings of, let alone insult or belittle, Islam or any religion or ethnic group in this country.

“Once again, Johor MCA apologises to all Muslims in Malaysia for what happened,” it said.

It added that the party will be more cautious and ensure that such an incident does not happen again.

Earlier, a screenshot of a now- deleted post criticising several moves by the government had made the rounds on social media.

The post had compared federal allocations for Islamic-related matters with the absence of free tolls during Chinese New Year.
