Fire destroys temple on first day of CNY


KOTA KINABALU: A temple in Penampang was destroyed by fire on the first day of Chinese New Year.

A team of nine firefighters, led by operations commander Mohd Khairul Abd Kohir, responded to the emergency call at 5.19am on Wednesday (Jan 29).

The fire, which destroyed the concrete temple located four kilometres from the Penampang Fire and Rescue Services Station, near Sekolah Kebangsaan Bahang on Jalan Baru, was swiftly brought under control.

Firefighters used a hose reel from the fire engine to extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.

The operation concluded at 6.08am after confirming the area was secure.
