Body of missing 9-year-old boy found in Johor river


KOTA TINGGI: The body of a nine-year-old boy who was reported missing in Kota Jaya on Monday (Jan 27) has been found.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the child was believed to have been swept away by strong currents after falling into the drain in the area.

“The search and rescue operation commenced at 8.30am using a boat and concluded two hours later.

“At 10.20am, the search and rescue team discovered the body of a child floating on the surface of the Johor River,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 29).

Supt Yusof added that the victim, fully clothed, was identified by family members as the missing boy.

He added that the body had been transported to the Forensic Department of Kota Tinggi Hospital for further investigation. The case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR).

Earlier, Supt Yusof was reported saying that a nine-year-old boy is feared to have drowned after trying to retrieve his slippers that had fallen into a drain in Kota Jaya here.

He added that the incident occurred on Monday at about 3pm during heavy rainfall.
