Along Cham free from drug possession charge, faces new charges


PETALING JAYA: Actor cum comedian Along Cham, whose real name is Muhammad Nizamudin Ahmad, has been released from a drug possession charge, but is now slapped with two other offences related to drug possession and consumption.

DPP Nurul Faraheen Yahya had informed the Sessions judge Ahmad Fuad Othman that based on the chemical report, the prosecution sought to amend the charge under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952.

According to MStar, the case was subsequently transferred to the Magistrate's Court under Section 39A(1) of the same act.

Following this, Ahmad Fuad ordered Along's release without acquittal, stating that the charge under Section 39A(2) has been amended and he will now face charges in the Magistrate's Court.

At the Magistrate's Court, Along was slapped with two other charges related to drug possession and consumption, for which he was granted bail of RM5,000.

He pleaded not guilty to the two separate charges of possessing cannabis and consuming a drug identified as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on the same day.

The first charge alleged that Along possessed 49.61 grams of cannabis at a residence in Cyberjaya at approximately 3.10pm on Dec 14, 2024.

He was charged under Section 6 of the DDA 1952, punishable under Section 39A(1), which provides for imprisonment and fines.

The second charge involved consuming THC at the Sepang District Police Headquarters on the same day at around 10pm.

This charge was filed under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952, read together with Section 38B, which carries penalties of up to RM5,000 in fines, imprisonment for up to two years, and mandatory supervision for two to three years if convicted.

Previously, on Dec 20, 2024, Along was charged with possession of approximately 58.23 grams of cannabis at a residence in Cyber 9, Cyberjaya, on Dec 14, 2024.
