Man arrested for threatening comedian Harith Iskandar, family

KUALA LUMPUR: A 31-year-old man was detained for allegedly threatening popular comedian Harith Iskander, his ex-wife and children.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the 31-year-old man was detained after Harith's former wife Dr Jezamine Lim, who is also his manager, lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station at about 7.31pm on Thursday (July 23).

"In the first incident, the victim was contacted by the suspect at about 11.21am on Tuesday (Jan 21).

"The man threatened to kill Harith after the comedian made a statement on social media regarding the ham issue," he said when contacted on Saturday (Jan 25).

The other incident occurred at 3pm on Thursday when his manager was at a restaurant, he said.

"She received a threatening phone message with a photo of her children.

"The suspect has been remanded until next Tuesday (Jan 28) to assist with the investigation.

"We have seized his mobile phone as well. The case is classified under Section 506 and 509 of the Penal Code," he said.

Death threats targeting Harith's family have led to the cancellation of his show at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), according to his ex-wife.

The threats emerged following Harith's controversial coffee joke related to the "ham and cheese" sandwich issue.

Due to these threats and relentless online attacks from certain individuals, DFP and the Harith’s family agreed to cancel the show to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved.
