Class One vehicles to get 50% toll discount on Jan 27, 28 in conjunction with CNY celebrations

PETALING JAYA: Highway users will benefit from a 50% toll discount nationwide from Jan 27 until midnight on January 28, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that the discount applies to Class One personal vehicles at all toll plazas, except at national border tolls, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building toll plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza on the Second Link to and from Singapore.

Nanta stated that the government had agreed to implement the 50% discount during a Cabinet meeting on Friday (Jan 24).

The government will cover an estimated RM20.08mil to compensate the costs from toll concessionaires.

"The discount is a continuation of the festive season toll assistance consistently provided by the government for all four major festive seasons in the Peninsular since 2023," Nanta added.

Since 2023, the government has spent a total of RM356.18mil as compensation for the Festive Season free toll initiative.

On Tuesday (Jan 21), Nanta mentioned that 2024 would be the final year for the provision of toll exemptions during festive seasons, with last year's Cabinet meeting deciding to seek a more targeted approach, which will be announced soon.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on Jan 23, said the government is working on a targeted approach for toll exemptions during festive seasons.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, indicated that, similar to previous subsidy adjustments, toll exemptions should be provided only to the B40 and M40 groups, not to everyone.

In his statement, Nanta further elaborated that the Cabinet decided on Dec 20, 2024, to end the free tolls during festive seasons after last year's Christmas celebrations.

He advised all highway users to take full advantage of this toll discount and plan their journeys to avoid traffic congestion during the long holidays.

"Users are advised to download the MYPLUS-TTA app (official) for travel time advisory (TTA) to enhance safety and ensure a smooth driving experience so that we can all safely reach our destinations and fully embrace the spirit of this Chinese New Year celebration.

"Road users are reminded to always comply with signage instructions and information displayed on the Variable Message System (VMS).

"Those using the Smart Lane are urged to signal early before entering the activated lane, drive within the specified speed limits, and stay alert to their surroundings," he added.

Nanta also encouraged the public to check real-time traffic updates or incidents on highways via the official social media channels of the Highway Authority, including Facebook (Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia), X (@LLMtrafik), and TikTok (@llmtrafik).

Highway users can also contact the Highway Authority Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752 for the latest traffic updates or assistance.

To view real-time traffic conditions via CCTV on all highways, users can visit the Highway Authority's website at https://www.llm.gov.my, as well as live traffic updates available through the LLM Info Trafik WhatsApp Channel.
